Diagnostic Help!

first time poster! thought i'd try my luck here!

Alright so here's my story i got my 2001 civic LX manual transmission last year with around 174xxx on it and it now has 180xxx everything felt fine at first

my first problem was my 2nd gear was grinding when i engaged the clutch for too long and popped it into 2nd gear or sometime when i downshifted. so i took it to my mechanic and flushed my transmission fluid and threw some new fluid in and now i don't get that issue anymore but i'm still a bit skiddish around 2nd gear

also while he drove the car for a diagnostic he said the clutch felt weak (which i knew it was ,but i wanted to hold off a little on it ) i thought since i had some extra cash in my budget i'd just get a new clutch so i had him put that in and everything was good for maybe 100-200 miles
last night when i got out of work around 10pm i started the car and waited about 5 minutes and then drove. as i was going down the highway in 5th gear going 65mph/3800rpm the car started to pulse or surge or whatever you want to call it. i've never experienced that before so when i got home i had my dad drive it and he said it feels like water had got into my gas line?

i just thought i'd run it by here. i feel like with the clutch being replaced and then this happening 100-200 miles later isn't just a coincidence? i'm not sure

any questions will be answered immediately! i'll be on here all day

but its hard to tell anything from your description

Changing fluid was a good first move for the balky 2nd gear IMO....But you should also know that 2nd gear synchronizer is the most often used, therefore is usually the first to wear out. If it gets worse you may be in need of an overhaul.

for maybe 100-200 miles

Ah, the finger of blame is quick to point! Stop it.
Put that thing away before you poke your eye out.

Old car, high mileage. YOU own the car and all the problems that come with it.

New problem is new-- and unelated to the previous work unless proven otherwise.

Check engine light on? Codes?
Troubleshoot as a new issue and proceed logically.

Got a more desciptive description than "pulse or surge or whatever you want to call it"?

i had my dad
drive it and he said it feels like water had got into my gas
line?
Um, I seriously doubt that is the issue.

Wow, those rpms are pretty high aren't they? Anyone notice that?

The LX should have the D17A1, no? When I do 75 mph (120 kph here in Canada), which is all the time, my rmps have always been around 3200.

I totally missed that too. I rarely ever see manual trans cars....

Sounds like 4th gear?
