Evacuated AC but wont take freon
Evacuated AC but wont take freon
2003 1.7 civic ex sadan
So I cant get the Freon into the system after an ac evacuation. The system was good before I replaced the ac hose.
do I need to do something to get the clutch to turn on??
thanks

Re: Evacuated AC but wont take freon
No the small amount of refrigerant pressure in the can which I assume your using is more than enough to trip any pressure switch on any system. Never open the high pressure side to the can while the engine is running and barely open the low side to charge. If you open the valve much, it will freeze the can and Freon flow will be very slow from it. You can also put the can into a bucket of hot water or on the manifold to warm it. If it is cold where you are working good luck... A/C work and cold temperatures are next to impossible to get right out of a can. A 30lb cylinder and a scale or a recovery machine is about the only two ways to do it with any accuracy in the winter...

Yes, just jump the two wires together on the plug that is in the pressure line. All it is a switch held on by the pressure in the line. it's there to prevent the compressor from running with a low charge (with no charge, the compressor would pump the oil out and soon lock up) Lot of fancy systems (with temperature control and a evaporator valve..not just a jet as most have) once called for this to be jumped to charge if you are using small cans. I charged a Mercedes and it would not take gas till I jumped it to get compressor to run. However, not an expert but that was in the manual to do and I tried my normal way that had worked with my Toyota.

wondering if there is way to command the Ecm to turn on the compressor??

That's enough static pressure to trip the safety pressure switch by itself. (meaning you shouldn't need to jumper it)
Do the fans come on when you turn the AC on?
When was the last time you knew the AC system worked?
And how cold is it there? Is the car inside and warm?

ac worked fine a few weeks ago before the hose broke. it was good n cold. car is outside in cold 30's
i shorted each of the 2 switches. 1 at a time then both at same time. no clutch sound was heard & no fan.

Re: Evacuated AC but wont take freon
shorted which 2 switches?
30 seems awful cold to be messing with the AC system LOL, may be too cold
system must be over 28 psi to run, that's the pressure switch on the drier
what other switch? thermal protector on the compressor?

Re: Evacuated AC but wont take freon
i was first messing with the switch on the high side near the firewall(looked like the GM pressure switch). that didnt work so I tried the switch on the drier.
