How do these spark plugs look?
How do these spark plugs look?
I just pulled these NGK Iridiums with 15,000 miles on them and they were replaced with Denso Platinums.
I don't think they look right, possibly lean mixture/running too hot? Thoughts?
Thank you.

Re: How do these spark plugs look?
The striped porcelain area of the leftmost plug looks dirty, in fact all parts of that plug that is not in the cylinder looks dirty. Plug wasn't tight? Water got in the hole?
I wouldn't worry at all about what those electrodes look like, from what I can see here in the pic, they are normal.....
....and kinda look like the last running was cold, like the car was moved 20 feet into the garage to do the work. ???

The last drive before parking it today and swapping plugs was a 65 mile round trip, mostly freeway?
The one on the left had an oil leak into the tube and ate up the coil boot/seal. That's why it is so dirty.

Re: How do these spark plugs look?
Maybe I should have used terms like "not unusual" or "average".
I see plugs with a variety of colors, assumed to be mostly related to fuels and running conditions in the cases of good running engines without problems or complaints.
The ones I worry about are the ones with ash buildup caked on from burning oil, loose plugs, and whatever comes out of the hole with misfire codes.
HTH?

Your posts are educational and entertaining, thanks for sharing. I did have a bad/stuck thermostat that caused an overheating situation. Thanks to your headgasket posts, I troubleshot that and am keeping an eye out for the true signs of a HG leak with 138,000 miles. Fingers crossed.
Thanks again.
