Jumped the gun on resetting the SRS light. Can I still get any related diagnostics?
Jumped the gun on resetting the SRS light. Can I still get any related diagnostics?
The SRS light on my 2002 Honda Civic came on and stayed on recently. I found some claims online that this is a common failure, and it suffices to simply reset it, which I did as described in the sticky thread here. Then I learned about the diagnostic codes, and I wonder whether I've lost the opportunity to find out exactly why the light came on.
The light has not come back on since I reset it (apart from the tell-tale flash at ignition time.) If there are any diagnostics for the system to report, should I still be able to get them out?

Yeah, if you have a reader you should still be able to get them. If they're cleared out and the problem persists, the light will probably come on after a few on/off cycles.
If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

IF codes and memory were erased by using the jumper wire in the MES connector in the fusebox, all pertinent data is gone.
You will have to wait until the failure and light returns to get the info you want.
If the light simply went out on its own, the data may still be in memory for some period of time.
