Re: P1457

Evap leak in the canister system.

3 solenoids involved. Purge (on engine), canister vent shut, and bypass.
Do they all click? (manually apply power and ground to activate each one)

You're up north in Canuckistan, got rust?

The common stuff I see:
Solenoid for canister vent shut is stuck open (no click) or doesn't seal when closed,
Purge solenoid restricted, causing pulldown time to be excessive

And rust. Here's a pic of a CVS that is rusted bad enough to leak out the seams

I think these were done with about 1 PSI on the canister system and soapy water sprayed all over it.

There's also a bulletin for 01-02 setting this code in cold weather and another with troubleshooting hints, but the above list is what I regularly see.

I picked 03 LX here

Purge solenoid is #8

CVS is attached to the end of the canister, and its screws are often seized and can't be removed, the embedded nuts just spin in the plastic canister.

CVS is #11,
Bypass solenoid is #15

Need more?

http://www.justanswer.com/honda/841m...place-pcm.html (Not sure what car this is about, but procedures appear similar.)

Factory scanner is immensely helpful in diagnosing these. Really sucks to try to manually do things even if one already knows how it's supposed to all work, and it sucks even worse when the problem isn't a common one..

i think this was the problem,

i removed it from the canister (with great difficulty, was rusted just like that pic), i plugged one end and blew into the other end, i could hear air escaping through the seams,

so i replaced it, i have driven the car 3-4 times and no CEL light yet,

im going on a 200 mile round trip today, so that will be a good test, i should know by tomorrow, Lol

thanks!
