Engine Noise 2005 Civic

I have a 2005 5 Door Automatic Civic with a D17A2 Engine. The car has 49,000km on the odometer.

The engine has started to make a tapping noise under load which is very obvious when cold. The noise quietens down when the engine warms up but never completely goes away.

There is no noise at idle or when driving with minimal engine load (engine warm or cold). I have checked the valve clearances twice and they are perfect.

Any ideas out there what is causing the noise?

Re: Engine Noise 2005 Civic

That's LOW mileage for a car that old.

Exhaust leakage (manifold area)?
Carbon buildup noise?
