New Guy, some issues here
Hey guys, new to the forums but not new to Hondas. I bought a new to me 01 Civic LX Coupe. It has high miles (almost 200k) and a little rough on the exterior.
So far I've discovered a growing list of little issues with the car:
-Trip meter, it doesn't seem to work (or have one?) but the odometer works properly
-Door Locks, seems like a have a dead actuator, looks like a common issue around here
-Cracked Exhaust Manifold, looks like another great Honda idea, I mean common issue...who puts the cat converter on the manifold lol
-5th Gear Syncro, thats my guess so far, the transmission slips out of 5th into neutral while throttle is NOT applied.
-Driver Door will not stay open, it always wants to close on me.
-Water has collected in the spare tire compartment in the trunk, looks like a gold fish pond right now.
+But it looks like I may be able to add remote entry easily, I'll look more into that once some of the above issues are corrected.
It seems like I have a lot more searching to go, if anyone can point me in a good direction or quick tips it would be appreciated.

Welcome!
It's there, but the switch behind the select/reset button may have issues.
-Door Locks, seems like a have a dead actuator, looks like a common issue around here
-Cracked Exhaust Manifold, looks like another great Honda idea, I mean common issue...who puts the cat converter on the manifold lol Yep Yep.
Maybe a detent spring? Junk stuck in the shifter area? Cable obstruction?
Door checker shot or detached?
Feed those fishies! LOL.
Shop vac, then start over.

Re: New Guy, some issues here
Well I haven't had time to tinker with the car much, but I did discover a couple more little issues.
-The climate control (air recirculation and rear window defogger) are not illuminating.
-The transmission also slips out of 2/3rd gears, not just 5th.
But I did a weekend trip and averaged ~42 MPG, thats mixed interstate, curvy hilly backroads and stop/go traffic...so I'm pleased with that.

There are little bulbs behind the panel which are notorious for burning out. I had to replace almost all of mine when I got my 03 Sedan last year. Go to the dealer, tell them what does not illuminate, and they can get you replacements. Almost all of them are different, another great Honda innovation.

Re: New Guy, some issues here
Well haven't got much done, but I did install a new door checker...that was the best $18 I've spent on this car so far lol. I was so excited about getting it installed I forgot to test out the door lock actuator while I had access to it....
I also removed the panels and powdered down the trunk so now I just need to wait for the good rain to come through.
*I have a new issue, 3rd brake light isn't functioning. I thought it was a burnt bulb, replaced it but it still doesn't light up, I have no idea where to start with this one.
*Also, I found an old TSB (01-081 Feb 2002) about the transmission popping out of gear, it seems much like my issue. But with the age and mileage of the car I know it would be a waste to contact a dealer about it, there is a lot of parts involved in the fix and I don't know if the car is worth putting that much money into it.

For laughs, have you tried replacing the trans fluid?
Probably 2 quarts of Hondas MTF
Brake light: Wire diagram and test light are my first go-to tools.
