2002 oil leak

My 2002 civic has had for close to a year an oil leak that drips onto my garage floor. I have the affected area protected, but since my local Honda repair shop misdiagnosed the problem to be a defective transmission dip stick, the problem continued. (the dip stick did need to be replaced as it was loose in the holder and could have allowed transmission oil to leak out from time to time).

As I should have done in the first place I started looking for the source myself and I discovered a pooling of engine oil just to the left of what I think to be the valve cover gasket. (see attached photo)

I have checked the bolts to see if there is any looseness, and everything appears to be tight.

I guess my question is "is this pooling likely to be from the valve cover gasket or is there another possible source of oil that would pool in this area?".

Re: 2002 oil leak

Replace the black round plug, that's the oil leak. It's about $10 at a dealer.

Hell, you can probably pry it out and pop the new one in quicker than you can find and watch a video about it.

Thanks for the reply, the videos made it look simple enough that I think I will take care of this myself.

Re: 2002 oil leak

Looks obvious now,. I wonder why the dealer didn't think of this.
