When to change the Head Gasket?

I see that there are some people (more than I'd like to read about...) that have blown headgaskets. My question is, and sorry if I missed the thread on this (I did a little searching), when is it a good idea to change the head gasket?

I am at 99,900 miles on my 2005. I am going to change the timing belt out in the next few months and really don't want to change out the headgasket. But, if I need to, I will.

The car runs fine. The temp gauge is under the half way point when warm. The coolant is bright and full. I had an oil analysis done and they didn't find any evidence of coolant in the oil.

So, do I change the head gasket or leave it? Is it worth the extra time (cost really isn't a factor)?

I would leave it. I was at 177k before mine was replaced and it was only replaced because the head was removed not because it was leaking.

As long as your coolant level is good, there is no contamination and the car is running at proper operating temp I wouldn't worry about it.

If your coolant is not disappearing, should be fine. could last until the next timing belt (or not, just roll the dice)
some got what? 200k or more on stock gasket? hope yours will be one.

Okay, my thoughts exactly. Why go through the hassle if I don't need to...

Thanks for the replies.
