01 EX oil leak
01 EX oil leak
Looking at buying my bro in laws 01 ex. it has 147k on it. Im thinking the oil leak is most likely cam/crank seals. The TB/WP hasnt been done yet. If I buy it thats the first thing I will do. Is there typically anything that leaks oil on these around that mileage? This is my first civic. Also has a PS leak. I think it coming from the feed line on the bottom of the resevoir.
Thanks id advance for your help guys!!

Re: 01 EX oil leak
Actually I just looked again and it says 110K or 7 years. It also says this on another page.
Timing Belt
The timing belt should normally be
replaced at the intervals shown in
the maintenance schedule.
Replace this belt at 60,000 miles (U.S.)
or 100,000 km (Canada) if you
regularly drive your car in one or
more of these conditions:
In very high temperatures
(over 110°F, 43°C).
In very low temperatures
(under 20°F, 29°C).

Re: 01 EX oil leak
Presta24. One piece of advice that I learned the hard way. Need to watch for a little seal in the oil pump as well. It is a known suspect to leak and bleed out through the lower timing cover. I would be looking for the following for potential leak path:
Cam Seal
Little plastic cover on the other side of the camshaft
Front/Rear Seals
Oil pan gasket
Little o-ring in the oil pump
Oil filter/pressure sensor
If you do the TB/WP it is a very convenient time to do the little o-ring on the oil pump because all you have to do is pull the pan and the pickup. If you do the TB/WP I would also recommend making sure a local dealer has the lower and upper covers available if you need them - they have these stupid little metal on plastic screws that tend to break and spin out - especially on old covers.
Just a few recommendations - good luck.
