What would cause light switches to go out?
What would cause light switches to go out?
Hi everyone.
I have a 2001 Civic EX and I have changed the light switch/turn signal unit twice before and have to do it again now because once again the low beams do not work on the headlights. This will be the third switch within 2-3 years and that is obviously not normal. What would cause these switches to keep going out? The one I have now I bought about a year or so back and it is an OEM Honda part. I know this car had a recall for the light switch burning out low beams but that is not the problem and Honda told me that the recall was already performed on this car as I am not the original owner.
Any suggestions is appreciated guys.
Thanks,
Mike

Pull the connector off of the headlight switch. Check if there is a stray looking red/white wire. See if the connector has been overheated.
Read the procedures for the headlight switch recall, see if yours was either done wrong or if it has suffered more damage since the recall. Possibly poorly crimped, or something?

At work, we have had to redo occasional recall work, for various reasons.
If you feel that your car may need the recall redone, you might try calling the customer assistance hotline and inquire with them. (The number is in your owners manual and on the Honda website.) Be professional and courteous.
