Car chugging, CEL on, sulfur smell in car...
Hey guys, this is a bit of a long story so I am going to try and give you the short version. Yesterday was on the way to drop off my girl at her house when my CEL flew on and my car started chugging. Usually I run my rpms to 3k in first and then 4k in the rest, been doing it for a while, no problems. So I pulled over and called my brother for advice, he said could be a coil pack should be okay to drive, just be careful. So I turned around to switch cars, drove it home and only ran it to 3k and no issues. Got back home pulled the packs and plugs and they seemed fine, took it for a spin and found out it would chug at 3500 in every gear. So today, I took it to Advanced Auto for them to pull the code. It said camshaft positioning sensor, so I ran home to get my wallet then went to friend A's house cause I don't have $120 to buy new ones at the moment. Car drove fine as long as I only revved to 3k. Left friend A's house and went to friend B's ten minutes away for a few hours, then left on my merry way home. Got maybe a half mile out and the car started chugging at 3k so I dropped it a bit more, then it did this weird engine shut down then kick back on and take off, like no matter how much I pressed on the gas it wouldn't speed back up, and the battery light went on and then off. After that I got a heavy sulfur smell in the car so I pulled over and friend D pulled over ahead of me. Friend B said I could leave my car there, so I turned around and brought it back and friend D drove me home. Called my brother again and he said could be the battery, which I know to be old and dying, might have a bad cell and the car is overcharging it or I blew my cat...obviously this had to happen when I am flat broke. Has this happened to anyone? Or do you maybe know why it's happening? Friend B is a master mechanic and said his daughters civic (02) cat clogged up and the car wouldnt even start and possibly this is the same thing...Thoughts? Please?
