2001 Ex Dumb Question

My EX has a small opening right above the "P" on the shift console. I picked up the little plug/cover at the j/y. I looked down in there but dont't see much. I know it has some purpose. What is it used for? Just curious.

I all have read about a passenger side fuse box. I have only found the under hood box and the fuse box under the drivers dash. Is there one on the passenger side too?

It's to manually release the shifter lock so you can put it in neutral without the key in the ignition. Stick your key in it (or a small screwdriver, whatever) push the lever inside the hole, and then you can squeeze the button on the shift lever.

It's explained in the owners manual, I think.

No..........
I think this would be in the owners manual too.

Re: 2001 Ex Dumb Question

Ezone,

I know you get agrevated when people don't read and I do appreciate all the help you do for me and others. My owners manual only shows the underhood and drivers side fuse boxes. I just read a lot of posts on the internet that mention a passengers side fuse box and it had me confused.

I thought that little port had something to do with unlocking the shift lever. Thanks for letting me know. I will try and find it in the manual. I have a service manual on the way so maybe I will be able to answer my own questions soon.

Thanks again

Ed

Ezone, I found the part in the owners manual about the shift lever interlock overide. Amazing what you can find out(LOL). All goes back to the sayings Keep it Simple Stupid(KISS) or Read the xxxing Directions (RFD). Thanks again.

Re: 2001 Ex Dumb Question

they put the shift interlock over-ride on there so you can put your car in neutral if your battery is dead and your getting towed or if the switch on the peddle fails and you want to get into gear.
