manual transmission problems?????

I have a 01 civic 5 speed that just broke, I've never had this happen to me so I'm just seeing if anyone has any previous experience or has any helpful knowledge for me befor I break into it. I was driving down the road and put the clutch in went to down shift forcefully(unfortunately I think that's where I screwed up) I heard a pop, clutch sunk another inch or so and my shifter went floppy no leaking holding fluid engine runs but no clutch and no gears. I know there's several possibilities just tell me what you think please. Thank you also where could I go from here its bone stock what should I put in while I've got the trans out

How fast were you going, and what gear did you try to shove it in to at that speed?

35 mph into first ive done it before must have been going slower though it usually goes right in no problem and i ease off and brake typical but this time it wouldnt go so I forced it like a idiot and now im here with a broke car I just need to figure it out is it in the tranny could it be in the linkage or shifter or pedal itself, fork, clutch. What order should I look for broken parts I guess is what I need but anything will help thankyou

35 mph into first
How fast would it go in first gear at redline, maybe 25 MPH?

NEVER shift at a speed faster than the gear would allow naturally.
The clutch disc was not made to withstand 10,000+ RPM without being clamped between the flywheel and pressure plate. You might have an exploded disc.

If there is a tin inspection cover protecting the bottom of the flywheel, you could remove it and look for "cat fur" laying in the bellhousing.

and my shifter went floppy
If you really forced it, it could have broken a selector fork, or more. You could have broken the shifter, the pivot ball, cables, or anything. Start looking at what does and doesn't move, and figure out what happened.
Get under the hood, have someone work the shifter and see if the linkage at the trans can actually make any shifts.

Ok shifter checked out I could see it going thru all the gears on the tranny so I guess its a disc but why did my shifter go limp is there more to the shifter in the tranny or does that mean its the tranny its self or could the clutch cause that idk ive never broke this so ive never fixed it didnt have any time to actually break into the tranny today going to try tomorrow any advice plus should I go with a lighter disc if thats the problem and is there anything I should go ahead and replace while im in there

01 has a full subframe under the front.
You might have your hands full....... but I have been able to get a clutch job done with all that big stuff still in the car....trans, subframe and all. It is NOT easy, and it is very tight, you have to be creative. A lot of stuff has to be removed to let the trans pull away from the engine, but it can be done.....just not sure about doing it in a driveway situation.
I don't think there are any instructions for doing it this way either.
Not a method for a rookie to try IMO.

Parts: Clutch kit if needed (it should become obvious once you get it apart if you didn't find cat fur when you pull off the inspection cover) A kit normally has the disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and the pilot bearing for the end of the crankshaft/flywheel.

Inspect flywheel surface once the clutch is removed, make a decision then.

Follow instructions in the service manual..... I always lightly grease the splines of the input shaft with Hondas "urea grease".

And fresh trans fluid.
And anything that breaks or that you notice is bad while apart? IDK.

but why did my shifter go limp
No idea here, you have to find out where the new excessive play is.

The shifter is a simple lever (stick) inserted into a ball type pivot (plastic), and the 2 shift cables are attached to it, and this mess is mounted on the floor under the center console trim.

Cables go through the firewall and end up on top of the trans, I think you already found those.
One cable moves with side to side movement of the shift lever, the other cable moves with fore-aft movement.
Narrow it down to one of those directions?

Have someone flop the shifter lever, see where there is and isn't correct movement and see why?
