check engine code p1316

Hey everyone I have a 2001 civic dx and yesterday while driving home the car died on me, i waited 5 minutes and started it up and it ran just fine( it was about 102° when i was driving) the check engine light came on with code p1316 spark plug malfunction (missfire)
. I've already tested the ignition coils and all four are good, also changed the spark plugs and oil and air filter can someone please shine some light on how i might fix this?

Re: check engine code p1316

P1316 does not exist for a US spec car.

Try again?

That's the code that came up on the scanner!

Re: check engine code p1316

Again, an 01 Civic cannot have a P1316 code. The code does not exist for that car. The PCM cannot generate that code.

But your scanner can interpret the data wrong.
So try a different scanner before going any further.
(Seriously, it's a big issue with some aftermarket scantools.)

The description for that code in your link has two separate items described under P1316, and both have nothing to do with an 01 Civic. The code is not for that car.

Okay ill take it to pep boys and have them.read the code.

Also the code will go off on its own so ill have to drive it during the middle of the day when.its hot in order for the car to die and the check engine light will come.back on. Have you heard of anything like that?

I've seen a lot of weird stuff over the years.

Accurate explanations usually come only after figuring out what the issue really is.

Re: check engine code p1316

The light may go out by itself, but the data should be retained in the PCM memory.

Get the Freeze Frame data too.

Re: check engine code p1316

I just wrote this in another thread:

I have personally witnessed a couple of Hondas cars do seemingly odd things while obvious misfire issues were happening, yet codes had mysteriously disappeared by the time codes could be checked. Had to read code while the light was on.

Weird things can happen, but there usually is a logical explanation for them....no matter if anyone understands it or not.

YMMV
