2004 Civic DX Won't Start
Hey guys, hoping someone can give me some guidance for the issue I'm having with my car. I'm really not informed about car maintenance but I'm eager to learn.
Yesterday morning I went to start my car and the engine wouldn't turn. No lights, no radio, nothing. Had my friend jump me and still nothing happened. Any idea what my issue could be? The battery terminals seemed to have a bunch of corrosion (pic: https://i.imgur.com/RNXo59P.jpg) so I cleaned them off with baking soda and a toothbrush. The corrision was at least twice as bad as shown in the picture, but a lot of it chipped off when attempting to jump the car.
Could this just be a completely dead battery? A couple people have told me to check the battery for water as well. I've also heard it could be my solenoid.
I want to do all I can on my own and for cheap before I take it into a mechanic. I'm in school and tight on cash.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please excuse my ignorance

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

I'd be using a voltmeter to check if the battery has voltage, and to see where that voltage stops. Corrosion between the battery posts and cables could be the culprit, among other things.
Also be aware that if someone connects jumper cables backwards it blows the main fuse and nothing in the car will have power. Double whammy.
