Squeaky noise from engine!!! What's up with that?
I've had my 01 civic HX for about a year and 2 months and here lately it makes this hissing, squeaking sound from the engine!
I was thinking it was one of the belts maybe! It does it when I let out the clutch and engage to go forward. It does it for a minute or two then stops!
It only does it when the car hasn't moved for over a couple of hours or when it is cold outside.
What do yall think it is ? The belts maybe? HELP!

This is something new... haven't heard of this problem on this board. After it's warmed up, does it still make the sound? And is the hissing like leaking air?
edit: I just checked, and someone else also just complained about this sound, JDQuikCivic, near the bottom of this thread:

After I go down the road about a mile or two it usually quits! It isn't like leaking air, its like the sound when a belt is loose! I havn't got the belts replaced yet because I don't want to buy new ones and that not be the problem. I wanted to come to the forum and see what everybody else thought it might be. It really sucks!!!! It's not like an old car that squeals or rattles but it is just enough to **** me off!!!!
It is like metal might be touching or something! I don't get it!! HELP!!!!!!!!
Also it doesn't do it when I rev up my engine, but when I hit the gas and let the clutch out and go it starts.
Could it be the clutch or something? I would really like to get it fixed without going to the dealer! I've already had to go for my harness in the steering column melting, causing my headlights to go out. But I still love my civic and I would not get rid of it even if it was a lemon like the guy that sold his ,because of the problems he had , I really want to keep it to show it !!! Write back with any ideas as soon as possible!!!
Thanks!

it makes the noise even after the car is warmed up, mainly when the car has been running for awhile.... n today i parked my car, put the e-brake up and put it on D and it made that noise. after a couple of seconds it stopped but when i held the brakes(and again while the car is on drive) and lightly pressed the gas i heard it again... i dont think this is normal and i'm starting to think maybe i should take it to the dealer...
Funny, I seem to have that issue too but it's ever so slight. I have an 2k2 DX sedan manual. Squeak is from left side of engine compartment (passenger side). Only does it when the engine is warm (i.e. 15 mins of highway) and it only makes the sound slightly above idle for like a couple of squeaks then goes away. Always around this rpm. Not sure if my dealer will know what the hell I'm talking about. I'm looking into it but I don't think it is serious. Anyone else??

ya i've noticed it only does it when the engine is warm and mainly at idle.... if the engine is kinda cold, i have to give it a lil gas in order to hear it... i'm thinking it has to do with the cv joint or whatever cause it doesn't do it when its on 'p' but it does it on 'd'.
have you gone the dealership if so what did they say?
i think its your belts but on a new car is weird
