Oil Pump Leak / Rebuild Question

About one year ago I replaced my transmission by pulling the engine/tranny. I replaced the front/rear seals. I also removed/reinstall oil pan to try and fix a leak that showed itself on both sides of the pan. However, started leaking again not too long after the job so I replaced the PCV to ensure crank pressure was low. Still no luck. Leak is about 1/8 of a quart per 3K oil change. No blue smoke out the back btw.

Before I replaced the tranny, I did a compression test (all good) and tested the oil pressure. I found the pressure was within the service limit. I was trying to get all jobs done that were required while it was all out of the car.

I recently took my car into the dealership for a recall. While it was there I asked them to look at my oil pan and tell me if the pan is leaking or the front/rear seals. To my surprise/disdain, they told me my oil pump needs to be rebuilt. I was never able to get an answer to "why". My question is, could this leak be attributable to the oil pump? Also, I looked at Majestic Honda and I can't really see that you can "rebuild" the oil pump. It looks like you can only replace ($250) it if it is out of spec. Any advice is appreciated.

I'm attaching a pic of my engine while it was out of the car - only one I got but it may show some clues to the leak.

Re: Oil Pump Leak / Rebuild Question

It's not a rebuild -- but it's remove and reinstall the oil pump. The leak fix is just replace the O ring seal(s?) between the pump and the block (they harden up and get brittle over time/miles/heat cycles). It will be like doing a timing belt along with probably removing (or just lowering) the oil pan to get the pump off. (Nobody has wanted me to fix one yet at work, price is rather high through work.) Thanks, ezone. That's a painful lesson I've bumped into here. Well, it will give me some timing belt practice I guess!

Re: Oil Pump Leak / Rebuild Question

Oh yeah I meant to mention the PCV couldn't help with that particular leak because it is the pressure passage that's leaking. There's up to like 80+ PSI behind it.

Wow, 80 psi - I wouldn't have expected that but I guess it make sense with a little gear pump! Oh well, it was a shot in the dark.

Yeah I did double work on that oil pan, pick up and oil pump just to replace that little f'in o'ring. It's not bad if you know that's the problem right off the bat.
