Any ideas what it could be?
I was accelerating and between 50-60mph when it just cut out on me without warning. I coasted to a stop and triple a picked me up.
Engine turns over but won't start. Looked thru the oil cap whilst someone turned the key and saw movement of valves, so hoping its not a timing belt issue. I replaced that myself @ 30k miles ago with no problems since, until now.
Only thing suspicious I knew of it was throwing a p1456 code here an there an I would just clear it an go about my business. Happened twice in last few months, recently just a few days ago.
So what could be the problem? I'm buggin cause its at some shop...I do my own work usually...but not like this when I've got work, during the week.
Help!

Probably too late but ... fuel? Maybe the fuel pump in the gas tank stopped delivering? My TDC sensor crapped out a few years ago and my car just crawled but it didn't stop and it threw the proper code so I knew what to go after.
P1456 won't kill an engine. Compression, spark, fuel. In the correct amounts, at the correct times. What's missing or wrong? Does it fire and run for 2 seconds then shut down? Green key light flashing angrily while cranking it? Pull back the upper timing cover to check cam timing.
Something happened with the timing belt... that's usually the cause of the engine dying very suddenly on these things.
YO!!!
Sorry it took so long to follow up on this, but this site is so BLOATED with ads, my work computer blocks it, my home computer cant link crap and my phone? forge it! LOL
So blueEM2 was correct. Blown timing belt. Had to replace the whole head. (thank god no piston damage) but 1200 bucks down the drain cause I got caught in the middle of the work week with my pants down. First time anyone other than me touched my car. But it went well, found a rebuilt head for 300 bucks, got OEM gaskets, and was able to work with the small time shop on parts which was nice. So its been back on the pavement since then with no problems.
I hate to admit it, but it was all my fault. I didn't apparently tension the tensioner properly...I'm to assume from this point on that you need to remove the grenade pin, and MANUALLY WIND THAT DAMN THING AND THEN RE-INSERT THE PIN BEFORE INSTALL!! Sticky that **** somewhere LOL
But it's chirstmas now, so on to another project. Namely my new tranny install! yay! no more synchro grinding noise!! cant wait to finish that one...right now got the new one dangling over the engine bay, close to home. Its held up waiting on a new TOB to arrive at 3pm today. The one I replaced just two years ago is squealing like some sort of hurt rodent in the cold LOL. Must get replaced while I have everything pulled. I believe the pre-mature wear could be attributed to the Exedy stage one clutch? Or maybe wading through flood waters that washed over my windshield LOL almost got swept away in that one! Thank god for a modified factory air intake! LOL
Hope everyone has a good Christmas an all, an don't get pinched DUI!! Enjoy your broccoli instead! LOL

Dude!
Yeah, belts suck so much when my GF needed a new car I directed her to a chain driven V6 Escape in lieu of a CRV...guess belts save gas or something? Why cant ya have a chain driven 4 cylinder? Like a motorcycle? A non-Duc motorcycle LOL

hahaha, to be honest, if you keep to honda family, some of the bikes had gear driven camshafts. Also, newer CRV's come with the K, so chains instead of belts
No! Course not...
But the OEM one you buy new must NOT be 'pre-tensioned' or whatever...cause I took it out the box, installed it as is, pulled the pin and everything was cool. 20 thousand miles later, BAM! broken belt.
And yeah most Honda bikes have chain drive...mine does at least.
Wait...gear driven camshaft...yeah what was that...the VFR...96-01 I think...few others...they make 'sewing machine' sound when they run. you can hear the gear whine under the exhaust note.

VFR, yeah

I think they were on that oval piston/8 valves per cylinder one too.

I don't recall doing anything with the tensioner when I installed mine... 50k miles ago.
