Squealing belts...
Squealing belts...
Hi, I'm a bit of a grease chimp. I say chimp because they are small and cute and my co-worker is a grease gorilla...
I replaced my timing belt and the other belts today. When I start it I can hear squealing. I would like to know if there is an easier way to tighten the belts because that damn mickey mouse looking screw is a pain to turn. Also, I didn't do such a good job and I had several small bolts left over. Obviously, the bolts are there for a reason but if I'm missing a few small 10mm how bad or dangerous can that be? My mentor says that the belts are most likely loose. I finished this today and I am dead *** tired so I am hoping/praying that by tomorrow afternoon someone will answer my questions.
An offtopic question I have: My shocks are worn and the FRONT RIGHT is blown. I was wondering if KYB GR-2 or aka Excel-G shocks can handle Eibach Pro-kit Springs. I am on a tight budget and I am trying to renew my EM2 to good condition. Thank you in advanced.

Re: Squealing belts...
Most if not all shocks and struts can handle those springs, A lot of people with 8th gens run stock with the springs as the drop is not major, however with that said the life of them will be shorter most likely go out sooner than if you were not dropped.
just my two cents..
The bolts thing..well it depends where they are missing from.. LOL..do they go to your fan? what did you take off to do your work? check all those to see why you have extra bolts.. the motor vibrates a lot and one would think the bolts are needed..but i cannot say what is safe or not...missing bolts i would just say are not safe and you need to figure out where they go..
not to mention if you do it wrong or lazy now, the problems will only get worse and more expensive later.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

I use a prybar from underneath to adjust. I try to avoid messing with the adjuster bolt if at all possible.

The only one that might be unpossible to reinstall would be if the lower cover broke out the deep recessed bolt hole area above the CKP sensor area.

And have an impact gun growing out the end of your arm.

I guess it helps if you have done the job a few hundred times too
