Rep Power: 0 Gear shift light stopped working
Hi,
My car is a Civic 2001 LX Automatic.
I got a problem with the light inside of my automatic gearshift. Usually, when I turn on the headlights at night, my gearshift will be illuminated as well (I assume there is a light under it) and I am able to see all the gears (P, D, D1, R....).
However, the illumination stopped working and its less convenient. Of course I can rely on my dashboard indicator to check what gear I am in at night, but I would prefer to see the gearshift at night. Also, the light of the Cruise Control button was also lit, but now it is not lit as well.
I tried to google for this issue and some people say that you need to change the bulb inside of the gearshift, by removing the central console. Can it be anything else? If the bulb needs to be changed, is it something that someone without experience can do?
Is anyone familiar with this problem?
Thanks.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Change the bulb. If you can figure out how to reach the bulb, it will be a piece of cake once you reach it.
The switches all have their own light bulbs that are replaceable too. Not the same as the bulb for the shifter. Remove switch, you will see a small round base that a pocket screwdriver will turn to release, this holds the bulb. The cruise switch has two of them.

Thanks for replying guys.
I will be going to my mechanic soon to change back my tires to all season and will ask him to change the light bulb. Shouldn't be to labor intensive, but at the same time I would not want to attempt it on my own, even though its easy for most...
