Need New Input Bearing
Need New Input Bearing
I need a new input shaft bearing mine has recently gone. I was wondering what other parts I might as well replace since I am in the transmission area already.
Here is the list I compiled so far.
-New clutch kit (want to put in a stage 2 with new flywheel)
-New throw out bearing (might not need to be replaced but might as well)
-New input shaft bearing
Basically any parts that I have to take off anyways to get to the bearings, etc.
EDIT: It seems my gears are losing the sync.. like it takes a few times to click into reverse and straight up popped out of reverse but only one time.

Re: Need New Input Bearing
Most likely all you will need is the input-shaft bearing, it's really the only bearing in these transmissions that seem to go bad. You may find the other main shaft bearing and the counter shaft bearings are making noise when you get the trans apart. You don't have to remove these bearings to change the input-shaft, if they are making noise it would be wise to change them while you have everything apart. You will need a bearing puller to do that.
The reverse problem is common in these cars. I bought my '05 new and it's had reverse trouble from day one; friends 2001 had the same issue. I don't think it's fixable. I figured out a trick with mine though. When it won't go in reverse I'll put it in first and just bring the clutch out far enough (don't touch the gas) for the RPMs barely drop and the car tries to move forward. Then I'll put it in reverse, goes right in every time. Just be careful when doing this, if you stall it'll lunge forward, not good if you're in a garage or a parking spot with a car in front of you. It's not a synchro issue, it has something to do with the safety feature preventing reverse when you are moving forward.

I had this problem to i used to just start pushing it into reverse and slowly letting out the clutch it will fall right in everytime. as for parts get the pilot bearing to its alittle more work as our pilot bearing is pressed into to the flywheel from the back so you have to unbolt the flywheel to get it out.
