Code P0122 TPS on '04 Civic

I had code P0122(TPS) come up on my 04 Civic EX. The car was idling rough, and not wanting to shift into higher gears. It also started having a hard downshift from 2nd to first. I picked up a used throttle body to replace my old one, and had it installed in a shop. Since replacement, now my car is idling higher than normal and shifting is still not as smooth, although it is better, it's not running perfectly like before. No check engine codes have come up, but the car doesn't have the smooth shifting it once had, and the idle is significantly higher. Any ideas?? I'm a girl so if you could explain it in simple terms that would be great!

Re: Code P0122 TPS on '04 Civic

GUESS: The used TB you put on has a stuck IAC valve. Swap the IAC valve from your original throttle body to the new (used) throttle body. Get a new gasket too.

Then do an idle relearn.

Who decided it needed a TPS, and who decided to get a used throttle body to solve the TPS problem? Sounds like that person needs to finish the job, apparently it isn't right.

Re: Code P0122 TPS on '04 Civic

Thanks for your help! I was the one that decided to get a used throttle body from a Honda wrecking yard after reading up on the code that came up. I decided not to get it diagnosed, instead we just went ahead and switched out the old one. I just now searched other posts on here and found the idle learn procedure. It was pretty simple enough to do...even for me. Well, it actually worked, and my car is back to normal again. I appreciate your reply and glad I could figure this out through these forums.

I asked the questions of who made the decisions because you posted this:
and had it installed in a shop.
So I had to ask.
And you answered

I was the one that decided to get a used throttle body

I decided not to get it diagnosed, instead we just went ahead and switched out the old one.
I assumed the shop usually makes the decisions but you sort of alluded otherwise....plus you played the girl card. Not that anyone cares about your gender, it has nothing to do with fixing a car. I'm surprised that someone that would go as far as you did wouldn't do the actual replacement too.

Anyway....

You didn't say how much higher your idle was after the replacement, so I was just guessing at the IAC because one that hasn't been operated in a while may tend to be stuck.

Glad the idle learn worked for you, free fix is always great.
