Dont know where this part goes?
Dont know where this part goes?
I removed my cylinder head from my 2003 Civic EX. I think these parts fell out of the head when I was taking it off. I cannot post photos so I will describe. Cylindrical piston with spring. Spring is 22 mm long and 8 mm in diameter. Piston is 12 mm diam 52 mm long with counter bor for spring and hole drilled to the center

Oooh, gonna need pics or maybe find your parts in a parts catalog.....
Do you know where these fell out of?
Did you take the top (solenoid coil) off of the VTEC valve?

I'll take "Shouldn't have done that" for $200 Alex....
Did you mess with the cam and rocker arms, have one of the VTEC locking pins fall out of a rocker?

Re: Dont know where this part goes?
^^^^tomg, can you answer the above?
That looks like a VTEC solenoid piston and spring to me. And you may be missing another piece as well. I can't remember.
If it is the VTEC piston and spring, it goes where the pictures finger is below.

Which is located at the back left of the head as you're looking at the engine from the front.

I think that if you are missing any of its pieces (guts), you are going to purchase the complete valve.
Box #9 is what you buy.

Re: Dont know where this part goes?
I don't think your missing a spacer. I thought so, but I don't think this gen has a spacer and it sits as shown in your pics. Worst case is you put it back together and VTEC doesn't work and puts you in limp mode. Then you'll need a new valve as ezone pointed out.
Re: Dont know where this part goes?
I would be nice to see an assembley dwg or photo before I put it together tomorrow.

Re: Dont know where this part goes?
Install spring and install piston with "counter bor for spring"(as you called it) facing down. Install new o-ring and torque bolts to 7.2 lbf-ft or 86.4 inch pounds.
