FYI A/C Woes
FYI A/C Woes
I have had my civic since 01/01 and have been to the dealer 6 times, I didnt expect this when I bought it (Had a 22r toy 4x4, that I now regret letting go). I too have lots of rattles but have given up on the dealer hepling. It seems so hard for them to hear what you hear because they arent in the car all of the time. I have learned to live with them after accidently cracking a door panel by slapping where the rattle occurred.
Anyway, I just wanted to inform everyone of my a/c problems (I live in Houston so it is a major deal). THe very first time I used a/c for cooling was in April 01 and it was blowing hot air. Took it in and they said it had a leak in one of the seals which was pinched at factory. Ac worked for 2 months then blew only slightly cool air again. Took it back and they said nothing was wrong with, said it was blowing at 55 degrees at the vents. I waited two months cuz and couldnt stand the heat. I took it in again and this time they found a leak in the evaporator core, a bad weld. So it had worked fine until I got in a fender bender that damaged the compressor. It was replaced and worked fine until last week. It was replaced in October. I took it in this time and it works but I am afraid it is a recurring problem and the dealer is just waiting for the warranty to run out (17k on car). This time they told me they shimmed the compressor clutch because it was slipping and they recharged the system. Would the slipping clutch cause a leak? Or did they have to recharge because they opened up the system. So hopefully in three or four months my a/c will still be working.
Well overall I still like my civic; it runs like a top, starts every morning, looks good, has great features, and gets great gas mileage. I just think I may have gotten a lemon. Please don't misconstrue this as an invitation for a "thrashing" just wanted to let everyone know the problem and I am looking for others who may have experienced this problem. May trade in on something else while it still works for fear of the reoccuring lack of a/c.

7th gen civic does have certain recurring problems, but based on what I have seen on this Issues/Problems Forum for the past year, A/C failures do not seem to be one of them.
You may have just gotten a bad a/c unit. Keep taking it back to the dealer, or try another dealer. If that fails, then get Honda of America involved. And based on the number of times you've had to go in, you may even want to try getting them to replace the ENTIRE thing.

hey man i hear ya.
i got the same problems with my a/c. it starts blowing cold air than warms up again, then cools down. somtimes its just stays sort of cool, but not cold. it seems colder if just open the windows and shut the a/c off alltogther. it does such a poor job at cooling the car down and maintaining one tempeture. i've had it in at the dealer twice already and then always same the same thing. "no problems reported at this time" between that and the knocking suspension that they just cant seem to fix, its driving me nuts. it seems like i'm taking it in once a month for warranty work and complaints with a brand new car with only 11,000km on it. it really suks. i'm now thinking of trading it in, on something else but i know i'm going to lose money. maybe the protege ES with the GT package. whatever
