7th Gen reliability vs 6th, 5th and 4th
7th Gen reliability vs 6th, 5th and 4th
Hey guys, just signed up but have been reading threads on here for the past two weeks.
Since the day I bought my 2001 EL.
I used to own a 92 civic hatch awhile back so I am familiar with Honda. Before that, a 92 Legend coupe.
So imagine my surprise when I bought this 01 EL, and immediately start searching all of the very informative threads on here. I guess I bought it because I needed a commuter car and figured why not get a civic, they have proven to be really reliable. What I am finding however, is that the 7th gen has tons of problems that I never once encountered in my EG.
What's the opinion around here? Is the 7th gen sort of a lemon compared to previous years?

Re: 7th Gen reliability vs 6th, 5th and 4th
I bought my '05 new and it's been a great car, 128k on it now. The only thing that has gone wrong is a front wheel bearing, nothing else other than normal wear and tear parts.
The automatic transmissions are not very good and are probably a big reason why this generation gets a bad rep, glad I got a 5-speed.
Head gasket failures are very common in this generation too.
I do think Honda's were more reliable in the 80s/90s. The 7th gen is still a good car though, especially the 5-speeds.

Yeah the head gasket, etc.
I maybe meant more problematic as opposed to reliable.
Re: 7th Gen reliability vs 6th, 5th and 4th
most people only come to a forum like this when they are having a problem,
7th gen is just as reliable as any other,
you have to realize when people have problems they come to a board like this asking for help, so of course your going to read mostly bad on a board like this,
nobody comes searching for a forum like this to make a post saying "i love my civic its problem free from day one!"
my situation is exactly the same as "anibis",
i have owned my 05 since new, the only problem i have had was a front wheel bearing, other than that just normal maintanance at 250,000km now,
oh and i have an AUTO!
