Timing Belt Tensioner Question

a question out of curiousity....

just wondering what the little hole is for in the back of the tensioner?

it looks like this hole should fit over a dowel in the block or something but it does not and there is no dowel,

i have attached a pic and circled it,

mikey1.

So, I'm trying to look at this from an engineering perspective...which is probably the wrong perspective, but I'm going to say...a vent hole to prevent condensate from building up and causing corrosion?

OK, another thought. Maybe it's used by the OEM during the build process of the autotensioner. They use a dowel to hold that piece in place while they fit the pieces together or something.

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner Question

Its to pin the tensioner before installation.
Once you pull the pin it tightens the timing belt.

Edit:Just realised you werent talking about those holes.
I am not too sure.

Re: Timing Belt Tensioner Question

Pretty sure you are talking about where the "grenade" pin goes that let's you install the tensioner and install the belt with the tensioner retracted.
