SRS Codes
Hey guys, so I had the srs light on my car for a long time now and was tired of resetting it over and over again so I finally decided to read the code for it and I came up with 4-4 and 2-1. I did the paper clip trick on reading the code and thats how many times the light flashed. There are 2 codes and did a little research and found out that the 4-4 code means Short to power in passengers seat belt tensioner and the 2-1 code means Open or increased resistance in front passengers airbag inflator. How would I fix the two things? Anyone else had the same codes before? What did you do? Thanks

Re: SRS Codes
The open in the airbag is an easy diagnose, pull the inflator off and ohm the bag. BUT unhook the battery for a few minutes before you take it off, and ONLY use a low output dvom. Keep your face out from the front of it, just in case. They will save your life in a crash, but make no mistake, they are violent and you do not want that in your face when it isn't saving your life. The bag itself OR the clockspring and the harness could be at fault. As for the seat tensioner, you can test it as well, the same applies to working on any part of the system. Test both the harness and the tensioner, the short could be either.
I work on my own stuff, and am a big advocate of it too, but SRS systems and AC systems are in the same boat to me, if you have no idea what you are doing, take to someone who does. That is not to be condescending at all, just don't get yourself hurt..

How would I take out the inflator and how do I test it? Is there some kind of scanner that tests it? And same with the seatbelt tensioner? I know how to take off the seat belt as i did so many times hoping that cleaning it would help but no luck.
