Cost to replace timing belt and associated parts

My Mom owns a 2003 Civic with 120k miles and she's overdue for a timing belt replacement. I recommended while they were changing the belt that she also get the waterpump replaced, new coolant and all of the other belts renewed. The dealership is quoting $695 for everything.

Does anything else think that's a little high or is it in line with today's pricing? Does anyone know of a good Honda mechanic in the Baltimore, MD area? I suggested that she go to the dealership to ensure she gets geniune Honda parts and know-how and knew that costs a bit extra, but I didn't think this job would be ~$700. Oh, and if a private repair shop's price is close to the $700, then I'd just have her go to Honda, especially since she's comfortable with them and that's where she originally bought the car new.

Any opinions would be great!

Thanks in advance.

That's a normal price from the dealer. It's a 3+ hour job so labor costs are your main expense.

Re: Cost to replace timing belt and associated parts

That price sounds about normal for a dealership.. Local dealership here in Vegas quoted me at $650-ish for the job, so I said screw it and did it myself.

For just the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner, the list price on those parts comes out to about $230. I, being fairly proficient at a timing belt job, take an average of 4 hours from start to finish (3 hours if on a great day, 5-6 hours on a bad day). Assuming about $100/hr labor cost, plus any applicable taxes, there's the price tag right there. That's not even including the PS and AC belts if you wanna replace those, too, which will prolly run $15-20 each from the dealership.

As much as I can help it, I buy OEM parts to do jobs like this, and I can get a timing belt, water pump, and tensioner set for about $180 shipped.

That said, if you have the mechanical aptitude to do this, by all means, go for it. If not, gotta bite the bullet and shop around, but I'd probably expect about the same price, maybe a little less from non-dealership shops.

Sandro, you know better... lol

For the record, I said that price sounds about right for a dealer. Never said it was a good price.

I am from NY. And that is an AMAZING price from a dealer, at least around here.
