Power Door Locks Won't Work
Power Door Locks Won't Work
I have a 1997 Civic LX 4 door. Shortly after purchasing it new I had an alarm system installed professionally. Just recently sometimes the locks will lock with both the remote and the door lock switch, and sometimes they won't. I am able to lock all the doors manually when the power locks don't work. Sometimes if I giggle the drivers door lock **** or slam the drivers door, then the power locks start to work again. It seems like the drivers door lock is what controls the other three locks. Now the power locks do not work at all. Checked the fuse and it is OK. Does anyone have any experience with this situation? I imagine I will have to take the door panel off to see what is going on. Is this a difficult job. Any help will be appreciated.
Re: Power Door Locks Won't Work
it's quite possible that when the alarm system was installed, the installer used a scotchlok connector to tap into the door lock wiring. they have a tendency to fray the wire at the point of contact/connection, and eventually slice the wire where it was tapped in. based on your description of the problem, worked at first, then intermittent, then no function, this may just be your problem.
to confirm, try to see where the installer tapped in. if it's by the door harness on the interior, you may not have to go into the door. reconnecting the sliced wire may just fix the problem.
