Fuel Door Cable(s)?

Hi All,
I have a new to me 2003 Honda Civic EX Black 2 Door. Great ride. With used cars comes small gremlins right? One of the most annoying gremlins I inherited with the car was that the cable (or cables) that links the fuel door to the flip handle by the drivers seat is broken.
So I am looking to more knowledgeable members of these forums for 2 things please.
1. Part numbers and or links to parts for the fix?
2. Approx cost of parts and or labor to perform this fix?

Thanks!

Re: Fuel Door Cable(s)?

I work at a dealership, we use factory cable replacement, it runs around $150-200 USD at the shop. Prices vary though.

It is about an hour labor to replace it in the shop I work in.

Cable assy, $22 (wow, it's cheap on a 2 door), part #24 here http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...gry5=TRUNK+LID

Or you can feel free to try the super cheap and quick fixes:

Re: Fuel Door Cable(s)?

ezone, have you seen the fueldoorfix collars ?? They are a quick fix for 01-05. It is a 2 part plastic collar that clips together. I snapped on on my 05 before I gave it to my daughter, glad I did as I have seen some 04-05s with the fuel doors popped open.

I noticed on my 8th gen they changed to a brass instead of steel to prevent corrosion and the failure.

No, I haven't seen them live and in person. LOL
I have brought up the idea of selling them as an alternative to cable replacement, but that didn't fly with the service mangler here.

For all of the cables I have put in, I really don't remember noticing corrosion. It just seemed to have pushed the end out of the housing. I'll have to look closer sometime.

Seems like we have done one or two cables on the early 8th gens now.

Re: Fuel Door Cable(s)?

i got the fix as cheap insurance because there is no easy way into my trunk if the cable breaks (no key holes on trunk lid or rear deck, but i have an access hole where the 5th seatbelt used to be for emergency).
