So out of no where my car started making a ticking noise... coming from around the valves but it doesnt sound much like a valve tick and its louder. On top of that.. my car also started shaking badly today every time I let off the clutch going into first and sometimes did it a little shifting into second,
Does anybody know about ANY of this... you would be of GREAT help...

Actually no, runs just like before, just drove it home from my girls house... no shaking.. which its shook going into first a couple of weeks ago and it stopped, now it started again today, but the ticking seemed even louder tonight, but the car runs fine... just hoping it doesnt hurt my car, if I shift it into a higher gear and make the motor work harder like going 35 or 40 in 5th gear, you can hear it tick the loudest then, I know a lot about what cars are what.. but NOTHING about motors really..

So, is the check engine light on?

The noise you described makes me think of exhaust leak.
Like a cracked manifold. Or a loose spark plug.


The shake makes me think of clutch shudder/chatter.


But I can't drive your car to see these for myself.

The exhaust leak was my first thought, because i LOVE changing exhausts on vehicles, like putting a full system on, i have a cheap stainless header on my car, i can't find any cracks in that, it could be in my downpipe.. but the sound seems like its coming from the right side of the head over top of the valve cover so idk
and NO check engine light
and ive also been told that about the clutch

Use a length of hose, like fuel line or garden hose, as a stethoscope.
Hold one end to your ear, move the other end around to locate where the noise is loudest.


How would a blind person find the noise?

The clutch deal has completely stopped for now, driving perfect... and after i posted the reply earlier i had an idea so i went and checked it, after i put the header on, there is a nut you use to tighten down the header on the far right of the header, and its really hard to get to it with all the alternator and equipment in the way, and after going back and looking, the bolt mustve not been tight enough.. took 2 months for it to start making noise, but i went to auto zone and bought another nut and put it on, no more noise... thanks for helping me realize how much i dont pay attention .. LOL

I think I might be having a similar sound -- in fact, just as you said, when it first started...I thought it was valve noise too.

Did it sound almost helicopter like at part-throttle? (before the road noise drowns it out)
