Shifting issue with M/T
Shifting issue with M/T
Hello there to everyone and I'll thank you for any help you can give me in advance. As you can see I am new to this Forum, but not new to Honda, or working on cars in general.
Anyway, I have a 2004 Honda Civic, Value Package, 2 door with a Manual Transmission 108k miles. I recently bought this car from a friend that had blown up the engine on it. He had already got a new engine (from a junk yard) but he wasn't able to get the thing installed and running right. So I bought it off him for a steal and put it together myself.
The engine was a peice of cake to get it in and running. Engine runs fine no issues.
While I had the transmission out I replaced the drive axle seals and refilled the transmission with the Honda MTF to the proper level. I used his old clutch because it still had a ton of life left on it and i didn't see any issues with it. I did replace the clutch master cylinder though because I was having problems bleeding the clutch afterwards. ANNNNNYway...
At first I thought no problem, I had to try twice but the transmission went into reverse and I was able to back out of the garage (didn't think that was to unusual for a car with 108k on it), went into 1st with no problem at all. It was fine just moving around the driveway, but when I took it out and actually tryed to drive it, it kept popping out of 3rd. I talked to the previous owner and he said the transmission never gave him any problems before and hes one of my friends so I'm trying to believe him.
Pretty much my question is should I maybe try a differant type of MTF? I saw people talking about useing Redline MTF instead of the Honda MTF.
Also is it common for the bushings that connect the shift linkage to the transmission to wear out and cause problems?
Can the shift linkage be adjusted? I didn't see any adjustment in the engine bay, but there could still be something under the center console.
Thanks guys, look forward to hearing some good input.

Re: Shifting issue with M/T
I find it hard to believe that no one had annnnny input on this subject, but I had time to take a closer look at the car tonight and found that the rear motor mount (against the firewall) is bad and causing the transmission to torque when the gas was on and when you would let off the gas it would pop it out of gear. Just wanted to wrap that up for anyone with a similar problem.
