AC Compressor Drain / Engine Drag

2004 Honda Civic EX 4 door 5sp MT, 60k miles.

I just wanted to see what other ppl thought about this and if others experience this. Whenever I'm running my AC (and it runs fine, very cold, no issues) the drag the compressor has on the engine is fairly heavy. For example, if I'm cruising at freeway speeds, I can actually feel the compressor turn on because the car jerks a bit. It's not a terrible jerk, but sometimes its enough to make my head bob a little. Is this normal? I posted before about the compressor making an odd noise, not so much the sound of a belt slipping, but more along the lines of something that is not being lubricated or is working its way loose. I can liken the noise to the sound brakes make as you come to a stop, that very quiet hiss they make as the pads grip the rotors. I'll get a video of the sound up ASAP.

Re: AC Compressor Drain / Engine Drag

These cars have NO power when the A/C is on. I feel a slight jerk but, nothing more than that. Check the belt to rule that our first. If it's not the belt then it's gonna be the compressor clutch or the compressor itself but, I don't think it's the compressor because you still have nice air temp.
