Power Steering leak?

I just finished a job up on my 2001 civic lx.

we replaced the lower ball joint (moog), tie rod ends (moog), control arm bushings (engery suspension), and the strut assembly ( monroe ).

it took about 3 days but it is done.

I noticed that when we jacked it up that all of the power steering fluid leaked out :-( it seemed to be behind the oil pan somewhere.

Anyone know why this might happen?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Power Steering leak?

I really dont see how thats possible by the description of the work you did...but fortunatly finding leaks is easy.
Clean it all up, start your car, turn your wheels back an forth and see where it squirts out from.
If your pumps shot, heres a link CLICKY on how to rebuild it.
Otherwise just replace whatever hose you tore...or double check thats its actaully P/S steering fluid and not clutch or brake...

All of the work that I did was on the passengers side. and the PS pump is on the drivers side. So I don't think that the problem is related to the work I did.

The PS resovour was totally dry. and the liquid that came out was a light/clear brown...

Re: Power Steering leak?

brown fluid?!! OMG man flush and refill! flush and refill! LOL

And I assume then, that the same applies...clean, (refill, cause you said the res was dry) and see where its comming from. Then just replace as needed.
If you run into something else, SEARCH this forum...its a goldmine of info.

Good luck! Keep us all posted with what you come up with...

Re: Power Steering leak?

it is pretty weird I cranked it up and moved the steering wheel side to side and not a drop of fluid came out :-/

I know that there is a power steering belt. and I didn't crank the engine when I was moving the wheel on the jack. So I wonder if that has anything to do with it..
