New Clutch?
New Clutch?
2004 Honda Civic EX 4dr. 5 Speed MT, 57k miles.
So it turns out that I gotta send the car to a shop to change the clutch. I was gonna do it myself, but I was not aware that I needed to drop the entire sub-frame of the car to remove it. I just don't feel like I have what it takes knowledge wise, and tool wise. Just writing to see if you guys have any roundabout figures on prices for a clutch job? Was thinking about bringing it to Honda since if something goes wrong later I can bring it right back to them for it to get fixed. I don't know how I feel about bringing it to a smaller shop. I have a clutch already purchased, its aftermarket not a genuine Honda. Should I go genuine? Thanks guys!

Re: New Clutch?
Actually if all you are doing is a clutch/flywheel you don't need to pull the trans, you slide it towards the passenger side as far as you can and you'll have room to do the clutch work.

Re: New Clutch?
Prices will vary by shop, depends how much labor is in your area to be honest..in VA labor is 90 bucks an hour..
OEM is always better for your car. If you go to the honda dealer they may not install the aftermarket clutch for you, and if they do they will not warranty the parts..

Re: New Clutch?
So how's this for an update. Today I finally got around to filling the trans back up with fluid and dropping the car down off the jack stands. After I was done, I drove the car to McDonald's and BEHOLD, the clutch has completely changed. It bites lower, and the pedal bite is much less agressive. I have NO idea what I did. All I did that could have changed anything was drain and refill the tans fluid. I also took of but later reattached the slave master cylinder. Haha, I'm puzzled. I also replaced the front mount, so the knocking noise when reversing is gone. Super stoked! Thanks for all the help guys. Maybe the clutch job can get put off till a little later down the road.
