Coolant temp sensor

Ive been having cooling system problems with 05 ex. Im basicly down to head/Hg but recently i've been haveing issues with it warming up just idleing so i checked the coolant temp sensor and at max temp that i could get it to at idle the resistance reading on the sensor .1 ohms but at running temp after driving 2 miles it 253 ohms does anyone know the actual spec for it?

Re: Coolant temp sensor

huh just checked the honda manual and no sign of how to test it. im guessing its one of those replace when bad parts. the engine light should come on if the sensor is out of spec. it is a simple thermister (temperature sensitive resistor).

Re: Coolant temp sensor

Its probably not your head gasket. Are you overheating? Change your thermostat if your car is taking a long time to warm up. Should fix your problem.

Re: Coolant temp sensor

I didnt check it with a procedure from the manual i just shut the car of unpluged it and used my dvom to measure resistance.Thermostats been changed and so has the waterp pump. the car only overheats if Im sitting idleing for to long or for what ever reason the car decides to dump all the coolant in to the overflow tank and wont suck it back in.

Re: Coolant temp sensor

did you change the coolant recently, and if so did you bleed out the air bubbles?

Re: Coolant temp sensor

im not even sure what the problem is. if its slow to warm up at idle, thats normal. cars are supposed to warm up while driving. in winter, the car will likely never warm up sitting still. now if it takes a long time to warm up while driving, its prolly the thermostat. ECT sensor the engine light will tell you its bad.

Re: Coolant temp sensor

When I changed my coolant the other day it took my car 15 min to reach operating temp on a 60 degree day. This was with revving on occasion to help bleed the system. I had to turn off the heater because it just wouldn't warm up.

Are (or were) you having overheating problems?

Did you bleed it properly? Coolant coming from the overflow tank is a tell tale sign of a blown headgasket. Maybe you may want to pick one of these up,

If you have a bad headgasket that will tell you. Otherwise I think you need to check to

a) See if your fans are coming on
b) Make sure you bled the system properly

Is your heat hot?
