Post Head Gasket Replacement Issues

When I picked up my car it seemed alright. 3,000 miles later I've got a rougher idle and there is way more condensation coming out the rear tailpipe and my exhaust smells funny.

When they mechanic did the job he stated they did a "hot wash" on the head and that it might smell funny.

Think the hot wash could have dried out the valve seals?

Can you blow a head gasket? I read a thread where someone was asking if they needed to break in a head gasket and the answer was no. I'll admit that I had er up to around 115mph within a week of picking it up.

I swapped the plugs and all the fluids were changed at the time of the HG job.

Wellll... Running at 115MPH is never a good thing honesetly because your in the upper RPM band and staying there. (It's not good to KEEP the car above 6-7k RPM because it does internal damage). Those RPM ranges are designed to be hit for a second and shifted out of, which is basically safe. There shouldn't be any working in of the head gasket that I'm aware of. The condensation out of the tailpipe is just regular catalytic reaction. As long as it's not pouring out of there you should be okay. Keep driving it, I don't think there is anything wrong. How rough is the idle? You may need your throttle body cleaned or there might be a small vacuum leak causing it to idle a bit off.

Re: Post Head Gasket Replacement Issues

at 115 I'm under 5,4oo rpm.

yeah I'm thinking vacume leak for the rough idle. i get a hiss when I shut the car off. hopefully when I swap the OEM for the ingen intake it will solve the problem.

i took it in today and got it on the hoist. sounds like i've got a little leak at the exhaust manifold. could that cause rougher idle? I also saw that I need a new engine mount on the front. Could the be causing some of the tremors at idle too?
