How can I easily disconnect tach?

I'm trying to diagnose where a whining sound is coming from on my Civic.

Is there a quick, temporary way to disable the tachometer?

A fuse or a wire that could be temporarily pulled perhaps?

Thanks!

Describe the whining noise, when it occurs, where you think it's coming from

Re: How can I easily disconnect tach?

The tach has whined a little ever since I bought the car new. No big deal.

The dealer just installed a new timing belts and some other belts this week. Now I am noticing a new whine (possibly) when the engine revs up to 3,500 rpm and when it revs down from that rpm. (3,500 is typically as much as I rev it.)

I'm not sure if it's a whine from the belts being too tight, or if it's just the tach.

I think it's a new whine but I could be wrong.

It could be that the new belts are so quiet compared to the old ones that I'm able to hear the tach more than before.

Honda is taking a look at the problem tomorrow morning.

there is no way gauges can make any kind of whine sound. are you sure its not something like the alternator whine when you increase rpms? usually comes thru the speakers so if you think its that, first thing to do is disconnect the speakers. but to answer your question, just unplug the two connectors going to the gauges.
