03 Civic Stripped Air Filter Screws

So I have a 03 Civic EX with stripped screws on the air filter box. Seriously, like half of the screws are like striped. I don't know if a previous owner tightened the screws way to tight or what, but the screws wont come out so I can replace the air filter. Anyone have this before? What would be my best motive for saving money. I could go to a junk yard and look for an entire new box, but I don't think I would have much luck in finding a 7th gen Civic in the yard. Any help would be cool. Thank in advance.

Re: 03 Civic Stripped Air Filter Screws

it happens because the screws get seized in there and the plastic holding the nut gets old and brittle and breaks.

best bet now is to go find a used airbox. check ebay or the marketplace on this forum.

another option is the get a aftermarket air intake.

if you DONT live in California, then you can buy a cheap ebay intake and get a quality air filter like an AEM dry-flow filter.

here is a complete setup. its AEM so its good. pretty cheap as well

Mine did the same and I ended up replacing it with a short ram intake.. works great.

The threaded inserts are in the bottom section and the threads are exposed to elements
so it is best to keep them lubed if possible.
