If it is the bearing, I have two extra rear ABS bearings I did not end up using from RockAuto. My problem was treadware, a deep line about 1/2 deep in the center tread that went for a foot. Super cheap BCT (Beijing Corp Tire?) brand though too . Same part number for my 01 EX and your 03 EX. PM me if you want one for cheap, they are sitting in their box in the garage.

Either way here is a great DIY from a member at hondacivicforum.com:

Thanks for the offer and the link beastyben1. On Friday I'm opening up the drum to check things out. A part of me thinks something is up with the brake. When I try to stop the car with the e-brake there is a horrible wailing noise. Either way, brakes or bearing, I need to open the drum to check things out.

I appreciate all the suggestions.

*SOLVED*
It was the bearing. The video was perfect. Changed it out pretty quickly.
Thanks again everyone.

I've had that same problem with my 2007 Civic-EX. The first set of tires (Bridgestone=GARBAGE) were noisy as hell until I replaced them with the Michelins I have now. Then it got real quiet..now 30K miles later I have the same problem. It resonates in the trunk and gets a lot louder at highway speeds. Rotating the tires didnt help. Last night I took the brakes, rotors, and hubs off the back but the bearings seem to function OK. I'm going to go to the auto parts store to see what they think.

Noisy tires, chopping the inner edges of the tread on the rear tires.
Common problem.

Read the bulletin I linked in my first reply.

Once a tire has started getting the chop, all you can do is live with it until it is worn out, or replace it. It will almost never shut up on its own, no matter what. (It might for me though, because that's how I roll. LOL)
