Hey everyone.
I know this is a bit out there, but bear with me please.
Recently the auto transmission in my 2001 Civic went. "No problem," I thought. "I'll just get a new one."
NOPE. Way too expensive, and incredibly hard to find ones that haven't been shredded.
So, being that I prefer manuals to autos, I figured I'd do a swap.
Here's the problem: It's also quite difficult to find manual 01 Civic transmissions in good shape. However, I was told that 6th Gen transmissions will work fine with a 7th Gen.
I dunno whether to believe it, but 6th Gen transmissions are easier to find, so [TL;DR] my question is this:
Are 6th Gen trannies compatible with 7th Gens? I'm not mechanically UN-inclined, and I can work my way around minor issues, but I don't want to drop the money for another tranny and have it not work right.

My understanding is that pre-6th gen D-series transmissions are interchangeable, but you will not be able to swap one into a 7th gen. Since your already taking on a big project like a manual swap, you might as well just rebuild a 7th gen manual.
