A/C controls dead 01 Civic
A/C controls dead 01 Civic
I have had the car for a couple of weeks. Last Friday on the way home from work the A/C quit. None of the controls worked at all. Fan, A/C, vent, recirc, rear heater were all dead. No lights came on when I pushed the buttons. The next morning I took off to town and about a mile from the house it all worked again. Then Sunday morning all dead again. I have checked all of the fuses. It is like there is no power to the control panel for the heater stuff. No air blowing out of the vents except a little while I drive. The only other weird thing is when this is dead there is a red word on the dash panel 'Brake'. I haven't found anything on the print that would tie them together. I haven't even found the Brake light on the print to see where it is powered from. When the A/C stuff worked again for the day, the brake light was off again. All of the fuses seem good. Stumped.

Thanks. I ordered one last night and should be here in a couple of days. I will get a cool day and tackle it. Funny thing tonight on the way home from work everything started working. Then cut out for a couple of miles and back on. Maybe it will work for a few days until I get to put it in.

Well, I put it in today. Same thing. A/C controls all dead and brake light on dash. Bummer with no heat, A/C, blower, vent, rear defrost. May need some heat soon to keep windows clear, and some comfort too. If it wasn't for the brake light on the dash, I would think it was just the heat control unit. I may have to look into that now.

See if there are any codes. Autozone will check for codes for free.
Pull the A/C control panel and see if you have a loose wire/connector behind there. Just pop out the panel below that panel. Then take out the 2 screws holding the A/C control panel in. Then just pop out the A/C control panel. When I say panel I mean the whole plastic piece that the controls and stereo are in.
Also check for bad grounds. The first one to go is usually the one going from the engine block to the radiator support.

Re: A/C controls dead 01 Civic
Just what I was coming here to look at. I have been looking at some circuits and wanted to know if I had voltage at that panel. I wasn't sure how to get to that stuff. I will go do that now and check it out. Looks like a couple of things to look at. Is power coming in and is the ground good. Either could kill the panel. Thanks for answering it before I asked.
