Shifter problems, help please!

2001 honda civic ex

I just had the tranny replaced in my car. I blew out 5th and reverse road raging because of some jack *** driving behind me on an empty highway with his high beams on. Wish I woulda locked my brakes, but I sped up instead, slammed the car into 5th and took it out. I got a rebuilt tranny and had put it in, along with a new clutch (Told me it didnt need it, but i replaced the clutch anyways). Well my shifter bushings also went out when I did the power shift. The tranny is so smooth now, like silk. But the shifter is horrendous. It is very loose. I wanted to replace the shifter bushings with some aluminum ones or equivalent. I found these to be the cheapest, but I am not sure if they will work with my stock shifter

The car will go into 5th and reverse, but you gotta slam it over to the right very hard to get it to do so. Once it is in 5th or reverse it works perfect. While in gear the shifter is loose. I wanna order the parts ASAP, No auto shop around here carries these bushings?? They all looked at me like I was crazy or something lol. Also is it ok to drive it like this without damaging the new transmission? Oh, and I dont wanna replace the whole shofter with a short shifter. I just want the tightness and ease of going into gear before I took out the the old tranny raging lol.

Cost so far including labor and parts 1400 bucks (Includes euro tailights that I also bought for it) Regular shop wanted 3 grand to replace just the tranny and clutch

I would check the mounting for the shifter bracket or the cables at the trans they could have the change cable installed incorrectly when they put the trans back in

They have both sets of bushings at Strut King. I'd start with the shifter bushings, then the tranny bushings. I thought I was hard on my shifter, you must have gotten Hulk angry.

Re: Shifter problems, help please!

I ended up contacting the company. I dunno why the link wont work now, sorry guys. He said they will in fact work with the stock shifter. and they where 25 dollars shipped. They are here. Now i just gotta figure out how in the hell I install them lol

Yeah I slammed it hard doing around 90's. Wish I wouldn't have. I have had my car above 90 three times since i have had it. And to be honest I regret it just because i love my honda, even with it's flaws.

Are there any guides or anything on popping these new bushings in?

Here is the link again, they increased in price to, I paid 25 with free shipping w00t

It says in their ad they ship with instructions. I did not receive anything but the parts. I emailed them but dunno when they will reply. I cannot find any guides or anything on how to do this

Re: Shifter problems, help please!

Removed the center console, notice lots of plastic shavings. Went ot loosen the sub assembly shifter bolts (4 of them) All 4 nuts on bottom of car was spot welded to it. All the welds on all 4 bolts broke, needs cut off.

The plastic ball that shifter sits in is loose. The Sub assembly itself broke out from the bottom....

LULZ

I need a new shifter sub assembly to fix the problem. I pulls the bottom of the shifter assembly out, well actually my girl did, she has smaller hands.

Hoping the tool and die guys at work can cut the 4 bolts off to remove the assembly. Then I am hoping i can fabricate a metal assembly to fit in there.

Price of a new or used sub assembly is about 100 bucks, or at least all the ones I have found.

thanks man! I ended up taking the car to work and had one of the tool and die cut off the old bolts. He wanted to try and fix it, so he took some stuff that resembles jb weld or max steel puddy. He placed it on the bottom of the cup that holds the ball for the shifter in place. He then made a ball out of the compound and wedged it in between the housing and body of the car. We then found some 8 by 20 or 8 by 30 allen head bolts and lock nuts to re mount back to the car. Removed the old bushings and used the aluminum ones.

It actually worked LOL. shifter feels awesome now, the gears are close and tight, shifts like a hot knife through butter. Best of all I can park in parking spaces without out having to push the car back out!
