01 Civic front end popping
I'm having problems on my wifes 01 LX. So far I've replaced: outer tie rod ends ,ball joints, motor mounts, control arm bushings, passenger side sway bar end link, and struts... still I have this popping noise coming from the passenger side front end when going over random small bumps.
I haven't had it aligned yet because I'm trying to get everything solid first. It seems like I've replaced everything except CV joints and inner tie rods.
The threads I've read mentioned "indexing" something (?) and sway bar bushings. I'm all ears for anyone who's had a similar problem, or can give some insight.

Re: 01 Civic front end popping
I guess I'm not sure about the popping noise, but they do make noises when they are getting bad and I mention them because they were/are very common troublespots for the 2001s. Maybe someone else can chime in on more specifics, about what the symptoms are when they are starting to wear out.
Also, I re-read your first post, the 2001 LX does not have a sway bar, so that's not it.

Re: 01 Civic front end popping
The "indexing" you refer to is the spring in the struts. IF the strut mount bushings are tight and spin free on the strut there is no reason to replace them. The mounts are a moving part. The mount is bolted to the body, the rest is bolted to the spindle, so everytime you turn the wheels they can move. The struts themselves can also make noise. The control arm bushings suck on these things, but you adressed that. I would think your noise is probably still in the strut...

Re: 01 Civic front end popping
In 2001 the strut mount bearings had a plastic shell, it's common for that to break and standard therefore it's standard procedure to replace them when you do the struts. The noise they make is a light over the occasional bump, replace them and your problem will be solved.

I dont know why everyone keeps saying the LX doesnt have sway bars. It depends on the year. I have a 2002 lx sedan that is bone stock and has front and rear sway bars

top hats - they usually squeaks and clunks. they do move and have bearing inside too, but could pop.
cv joints - not likely to pop, but they could. rod ends too, ball joints as well.
when you changed them, did they CV had too much play?
PS: sending PM's might not work too well, i did not sign in so much lately.
I am answering because you are very polite as well , so thanks for that
I usually do not answer to pm's asking fer help from guys i don't know (especially when they sound too desperate, which is not your case, very polite, actually), so kudos for you
Wish i could be of more help, actually...

Re: 01 Civic front end popping
Mindbomber nailed what I was thinking of on the bearings. They are friggin plastic. . That's why they broke. Gearbox mentioned in another thread the new ones are metal.

Kind of weird that the 2001 model was left in the dust in terms of sway bars.

Re: 01 Civic front end popping
01 was the big change in generations, so they did so much wrong on them... auto trans, fer example... struts instead of double wishbone...
