Angry P1361,P1362 on 01 civic EX, PLEASE HELP

First off.. I have been searching for these code on many forums, but it seems to be no solution fits to my civic.
- Let's at the 1st time I got these code. It was a very hot afternoon while I was driving on freeway at 80 mph with AC on. Suddenly the CEL( check engine light) came on, car run with half power, stalled, then lost power. I pulled over, let's it cool for an hour then it runs normal. Brought the car to a body shop, it had codes:
P1361 (TDC Sensor Intermittent Interruption)
P1362 (TDC sensor no signal).

They said they don't really know about these code and they erased the codes. After an hour smooth running, CEL appeared. Brought to another body shop, this time, only P1361 appeared. They asked me leave the car for them and come back in following day. Next day, they called and asked for $260 for changing the TDC sensor.
Thing did not end at there. After a month of fixing, all thing happened again. Brought car to Honda dealership, they said it needed to replace the cylinder head that cost $5000. WTH!!! Brought ca back to the body shop, they asked leave car there to check, a week passed without solution. I decided to sell it after 3 months onwing! LOL. But first I have to fix it. Tell the body shop try to fix it anyway so I can sell it. They say lets them try, WTF! Are they playing around with my money????
Yesterday, they called, they said they tried to replace the ....( the thing that located at middle exhaust system) they guessed, that thing could be stuck so the heat "hit back" the engine-> engine hot-> disconnect the TDC sensor to computer. !!!( is this right?). But it wasn't make any change.
They said, to day 5-14-11 they gonna add another part, hoping could make the car work as normal.

I am so tired with the "Tom and Jerry" game. According to my searching, this problem was on many topic from 2007. So any guy fixed this? Please I need your help right now. and Please don't throw anymore guessing.

$260 and he still didn't fix the bad wire/connector.

I would take it to a real mechanic, not a parts exchanger. If he was a real mechanic he would have diagnosed an open in the wire between the TDC sensor and the main relay or between the sensor and G101 (engine bay ground).

If you have a multi-meter I can walk you thru the diagnosis, takes about 10-15 minutes.

BTW: It's not a stupid Asian car, it's a stupid "mechanic" that's your problem.

Already told him to check the wires, but he said the was not a wires' problem, cuz car just gets stalled and lose power when engine warm or hot, so it could be something else. He said if cause of wires, the problem could appear at the time starting the car.

Re: P1361,P1362 on 01 civic EX, PLEASE HELP

According to the service manual the only possible causes are 1) bad sensor 2) bad ECM/PCM 3) bad wire/connector so, he's following the manual's recommendations. You can either find a salvage comp and hope it works or go to Honda and get it updated but, chances are that they will tell ya that it needs a new one and try to charge you your first born.

edit: It still could be a wire/connector. Everything in the engine compartment heats up when it's running. It could cause a defective piece of insulation to expand revealing a cut or something causing it to have an intermittent problem when warm. You need to check wires when warm. It wouldn't hurt to put a scanner on it then either so you can see if the ECM/PCM is reading the sensor right.

Re: P1361,P1362 on 01 civic EX, PLEASE HELP

hi, my 99 honda civic lx is diagnosed with code P1362. And the mechanic wants to replace distributor. I recently gave my car for oil change to different place and didnt do extra repairs they wanted to do. Wonder if they tampered with my car. What should i do next? thanks a lot.
