overheating help
ok, so i drove about 300 miles yesterday on the highway... no issues, as soon as i got into town, i stopped at a redlight... looked down and noticed my temperature gauge started rising slowley... green light, started moving.. it rose another 1/4th while i was accelerating then dropped back down to normal. next light... same thing.. well. i put my windows down, and turned on my heater to see if it would do it at the next light, as soon as i turned the heater on the temp gauge shot up to the red... turned the heat off and it slowely started droping( but still stayed much higher than normal)
anyone have any ideas?

Re: overheating help
Check your radiator level while the car is cool and make sure its topped up... check your coolant overflow level and make sure it is between the max and the min... Then you have to bleed the air out of the coolant system (Jack up the front of the car while the car is cold, remove the rad cap and start the car. Put the heat on maximum heat full fan power and let it slowly warm up. As the coolant level in the radiator drops top it up with OEM HONDA coolant. Once this is done put the car back down and leave the rad cap off overnight and when you get up in the morning top the radiator up the rest of the way and put the cap back on.
If the problem arises again replace the thermostat and radiator cap and bleed the air out of the system again.
If the problem arises again after that it's more serious and you may have one of the following issus: Lack of circulation of the coolant system which could be a water pump or a clog somewhere, most often the heater core. Or a failed head gasket which is by far the most common cause of the problem
Hope this helps.

Re: overheating help
tbohar, your first solution fixed the problem. I actually was pretty sure it was going to be my head gasket because ive run about 6 10lb bottles of spray through the car over the last year. But im not seeing any coolant in my oil so /shrug. Anyway, its working fine now, thanks for your quick response.
Re: overheating help
Great, unfortunatly if it's the head gasket it could take a couple of weeks for the problem to return. Make sure you check your overflow and radiator levels daily to make sure everything is okay.
You don't need to see coolant in the oil in order for it to be the head gasket unfortunatly.
