2002 Civic LX Shaking Problem
2002 Civic LX Shaking Problem
My husband and I bought a 2002 Honda Civic "as is" (yes, not a good idea, know that now) 2 weeks ago. On the way home from the dealership, the car began to shake badly at around 48 to 50MPH and gradually grew worse the faster we went. When we turned the car to the right, the shaking was still there, but not as bad.
Took it to a mechanic, and he told us our wheel was bent. We replaced the wheel, but the shaking is still there just as bad as it was in the beginning. They also said it could be a bent spindle or separated tire. The steering wheel also shakes, so its hard to drive at higher speeds without your arms tiring out really quickly.

Re: 2002 Civic LX Shaking Problem
did you balance the tire after the wheel?
Also, a bent wheel, if used for long, will cause concentrated stress to the tire in the bending point, so it "could" be the separated tire.

Re: 2002 Civic LX Shaking Problem
Possible causes:
1. bent rim
2. bad tire
3. unbalanced tire
4. *BAD BALLJOINT* http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...w=1440&bih=719
5. *BAD TIE-ROD ENDS*
Basically I'm saying inspect the tires and suspension immediately or bad things will happen. Something you can do your self is raise the car and wiggle the wheel: up/down wiggle is a bad balljoint or wheel bearing, front/back wiggle is bad tie-rod end.
A bad tire should be obvious.
