2004 Civic EX Headlight issues passenger side Hi and low out only
2004 Civic EX Headlight issues passenger side Hi and low out only
I installed an HID kit in my civic about 2 weeks ago. I noticed the drivers side was brighter but attributed that to the burn in process. Last night I was driving and turned my high beams on and the Hi and Low on the passenger side went out.... Fog lights are fine and the drivers side is fine....
Fuse? are there separate fuses for the right and left side / Hi an low? or do I need to pull the bumper off and check everything...
any help would be appreciated.

with hid kits, you really need to be running a separate wire harness and not using the factory wiring. you either blew a fuse or melted the stock wires.

Would the fuse for the headlights be located under the hood or in the car under the steering wheel.
I assume by separate wiring harness you mean a harness with thicker gauge wire? I really wouldnt know where to begin with that.. I'm good with house wiring but the Car modification part I am a bit new to....

you could just buy a harness, check theretrofitsource.com and talk to them about what you have. they will suggest the correct one so all the connectors are plug and play. fuses should be in the box by battery. the problem is stock wiring is too thin to support hids. when they first ignite, the ballasts draw a ton of power to light the bulbs, way more than halogens do. (a halogen bulb draws 5 amps max, an hid ballast can draw 15-20 amps on startup). once the bulbs warmup about a minute, the voltage drops to the normal 35w.

It was the fuse. I replaced the fuse and the low beams turn on fine but as soon as I turn on the highs the passenger headlight fuse blows.
I assume a relay harness would solve my issue. My foglights have a relay (since they are aftermarket) and they have no issues at all and are on a 15A fuse...
I think I got my answer... thanks for the help I really appreciate it.

yeah you are trying to put too much power thru the skinny wires. get a new relay harness and problem solved. 14 gauge wire would be best, but 16 gauge should also work for 35w hid kit.

Yeah its fine for just the lows but as soon as I turn on the highs it blows the right headlight fuse every time...
I got a relay harness for the highs and lows! thanks for the help
