05 Civic SI Overheating
05 Civic SI Overheating
I have a 2005 Honda Civic SI with 184000km. All maintenance has been done on this car (oil changes, timing belt at 150000). For the past 6 - 9 months the car seems to blow cool air when the heat is on high, regardless of how long the car has been running. The thermostat was replaced and that temporarily seemed to fix the problem. Then about two months ago the car slid into the ditch (during a storm). It didn't seem to do any damage, however, about a week later, the car began overheating. A mechanic replaced the one coolant fans and the radiator. About 4 days later it happened again. The mechanic the replaced the second fan. Then, a week later the car overheated again. It would blow cold air the entire time. So, this time they replaced the head gasket and apparently the radiator as the previous one was faulty (?). After having the car for one week the car is now overheating again. I am VERY frustrated and looking for some advice.
Re: 05 Civic SI Overheating
What about the heater core? I'm not too familiar with heating systems, but I have heard of them breaking, malfunctioning, or just not working right and people who have similar problems had that as their issue. Hopefully someone else can provide a little more input on it.

Re: 05 Civic SI Overheating
I haven't heard much of heater core failures in 7th gens. In fact, in my time here I don't think I've seen one thread. Call the mechanic and ask him if he got the head checked for warping. Your head may be warped from the overheating and if he didn't check it again a new head gasket wouldnt prevent coolant loss
This may be some very bad news for you so it's important you ask him that.

Re: 05 Civic SI Overheating
I own a 2005 non-si civic. My heater core is leaking and now my car is overheating very often.
I just found out Honda has a TSB out for cars that don't output heat (like mine used to) and for overheating (which it does now). TSB #08-098 says the coolant can eventually cause restrictions in the radiator. Hoping to take the car to Honda this week to get the rad changed and have my cooling system flushed and refilled. I am also hoping they replace the heater core since it seems to be affected by the factory coolant as well (which is an expensive fix).
Hoping the heads not warped. But if it is I really hope Honda fixes it for free.
I used to love my car but lately I just wait for something to go wrong with it.
